about us
Founded in 1978, Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theater's work stands apart in the field of contemporary performance for its vast emotional range, intellectual provocations, and stunning visual environments. Dramatically powerful and insightfully witty, this company's unique vision has been hailed as theater for the heart and mind. Our mission is realized through 2 major program areas.
CREATION AND PUBLIC PERFORMANCES OF NEW WORKS AND REPERTORY
SPDT creates and presents performance works with community casts
representing a broad socio-economic cross-section of the population, including collaborations with healthcare professionals, parents and children, high school athletes, senior citizens, and other groups. Our work has been presented in more than 25 states as well as Canada, Europe, Israel, Taiwan, and Russia.
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS PROGRAMS
SPDT has been at the forefront of the national arts-in-medicine movement with the development of its Caring for the Caregiver. In 2001, SPDT presented its national, multi-year performance work Out of This World/The Life after Life Project in the Twin Cities. This project united 35 local artists and caregivers to focus on the ways in which memories of the deceased influence the living. Other Community Connections programs include Families in Motion workshops for children and adults, Life Stories workshops for senior adults, Performance Works for intergenerational casts, and Arts in Education programs for students of all ages.
